Instructions for using the oak barrel with brass tap
Important Notice / Warning (Paraffin Inner Coating)
This oak barrel has an inner paraffin coating. When in contact with high-proof alcohol, the paraffin layer may partially dissolve and migrate into the contents.
- Recommended maximum: up to 40% ABV at room temperature.

Above 40% ABV: use is outside the recommended application – at your own responsibility.

Boiling water: Please do not pour boiling water into the barrel, as this will wash out the paraffin.
Follow these steps to prepare and use your oak barrel for storing whiskey, spirits and wine:

Preparation: rinse the barrel thoroughly with lukewarm water several times before first use to remove any residue from the manufacturing process.

Sealing the keg: To seal the keg, fill it with water. Place the keg in the sink to catch any dripping water. The bottoms and staves of the barrel will swell due to the water absorption and seal the barrel. Depending on the size of the barrel, this process can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Installing the tap: Once the wood has swollen due to the water, carefully screw in the tap using an open-end wrench. Be careful not to screw it in too far to avoid the risk of breakage. Damage caused by screwing it in too tightly is not a reason for complaint.

Filling the barrel: Drain the water from the barrel and then fill it with the desired brandy or wine. The barrel is now ready to store your alcohol.

In case of leaks: If there is a leak between the barrel and the tap, turn the tap in further or seal it with barrel sealant or hemp.

Repeat if it dries out: If the keg dries out and starts to leak, repeat the sealing process with water to extend the life of your keg.

Cleaning

Do not leave wooden products wet or place them on a heat source. Always let them air dry while standing upright. This helps prevent warping or cracking.
Oiling
To keep the surface smooth and resilient, we recommend treating the wood regularly with a natural oil – such as cold-pressed linseed oil. The oil protects against moisture, enhances the wood grain, and gives it a warm appearance.
Apply the oil sparingly to the clean, dry surface using a soft cloth. Wipe off any excess after about 15 minutes and allow it to dry completely – ideally overnight.
